Research has proven that spending time outdoors is beneficial for the human body and mind. Walking around in nature is associated with lower blood pressure and stress levels. Studies have found that people who spend more time in nature are generally happier and in a better mood than those who stay most of their time indoors.

One great benefit of moving to Huntsville, Alabama, is the numerous opportunities to spend time doing outdoor activities by yourself or with friends or family. Today, we'll look at some outdoor activities you can get involved in as a resident of Huntsville.

Go for A Walk in The Park

Huntsville has plenty of parks in and around the city. The Big Spring Park is located in the downtown area of Huntsville. This park lured settlers to the area around 200 years ago and provides a vast, green space for all its citizens to enjoy.

There are several exciting festivals and events held in the park, such as concerts, the Panoply Arts Festival, the Rocket City Adventure Race, and more. It's also a perfect space for families with children who can play with the various animals in the park, including koi fish, friendly geese, ducks, etc.

If you’re a pet owner, the city has a range of dog parks where you can take your dog off its leash and let them play to their heart’s content. These dog spots are larger than the size of a football field and are designed to protect your pet with particular areas cordoned off for dogs that weigh 25 pounds or less.

Enjoy A Picnic Near A Waterfall

Moving to Huntsville is best if you love being near water. There are many small and large waterfalls in the Northern Alabama area, which are just a short drive away from the city.

For instance, you can drive to the Little River Canyon National Preserve to see the Little River Falls. This 45-foot waterfall has a tremendous amount of water going over the fall, which swells during the rain periods. You can also rent a kayak and go kayaking down the river or have a picnic with your loved ones in one of the shaded areas, which has many barbecue grills and tables.

Take A Day Trip to The Shoals

If you’re a huge fan of music, especially rock music, you don’t want to miss out on a visit to the Shoals. This is a phrase used to describe a cluster of small towns located in northwest Alabama, including Tuscumbia town where Helen Keller, the famous American author, was born and raised, Sheffield town which houses the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, and Florence town which has a beautiful river threading through the city.

There are plenty of sights to see in The Shoals area, including the Pickwick Lake, the History of Muscle Shoals House, Tuscumbia Roundhouse, a scenic cruise on Wheeler Lake, and more.
